Art on Display at Grossmann House
The National Trust property Grossmann House (c1870), Church St Maitland, is showcasing its collection of watercolours by artist and historian Cecily Mitchell (1912-1969) as part of house museum tours. As well as her many paintings, Cecily Mitchell produced numerous sketches, many of which were included in her local history book “Hunters River”, ‘a history of the early families and the homes they built in the Lower Hunter between 1830 and 1860’; she also illustrated “Maitland 1863-1963” and created the Coat of Arms for Maitland City Council. Items of her work are in the collections of the Art Gallery of NSW and the National Art Gallery in Canberra.
Tours commence at 10:30am, finish at 3pm. Bookings on Eventbrite but not essential.
