Executions Guided Night Tour
Have you heard all about the Maitland Gaol history but want to dive a little deeper? The Executions Guided Night Tour unlocks a door into the past as you explore the executions at Maitland Gaol. 16 men were executed between 1843 – 1897 and now these men form an interesting part of our history.
The expert guide will share stories as you learn about the crimes that lead to the death penalty, woven into a narrative that provides historical context to capital punishment in the colony. This tour explores graphic content including the process on the day of the execution for the condemned and the mechanics of execution and is suitable for adults only.
Please note that the tour contains adult themes that could be confronting or triggering. Themes included in the storytelling are the evolution, process and equipment used in executions by hanging, executions of First Nations people, adult language, violence and sex crimes, crimes against children and language from the past.
Storytelling will involve the names and images of deceased persons. As with many of the themes associated with Maitland Gaol, some people may find these stories distressing. If you are unsure if this tour is right for you, please contact the Maitland Gaol office for more information before purchasing a ticket.
