Grossman & Brough House Open Day

Overview

Open to the public Sunday 10th March the well-known 1870’s Grossmann & Brough Houses features new exhibits in the Costume Display Room, also the Cecily Mitchell Room and the upper level hostel area of Brough House. Focusing on the Grossmann Edwardian period, see exquisite fine silk and lace gowns worn at the wedding of Alfred Stanley Challen and Olive Mary Probert at Brixton Hill, Surry, England on 29th April 1905, before they emigrated to Australia to live in High Street, Newcastle. One hour tours commence at 10:30 am and finish at 3pm. Book on Eventbrite or walk-ins welcome, $12 Adult, $10 Concession, National Trust members and children under 5 free. Also, something new this year and going back to when it was a hostel for students at Maitland Girls’ High School, Brough House has a free exhibition featuring the newly interpreted Shower Block & toiletries along with a wonderful selection of photos and stories from former students.  While upstairs, meet our Artists in Residence and volunteers working in the Fibre Makers Space. This is a free exhibition but donations would be greatly appreciated, all go towards the maintenance of these wonderful Victorian residences. Home-made refreshments available with seating in our lovely garden area along with our range of Mrs Beckett’s Kitchen preserves, for purchase.
