From Wednesday 14 February until Sunday 11 March 2018, Riverside Plaza at The Levee
Central Maitland will be the home of a Pop up Museum titled ‘Collect Maitland’.
Driven through the Open Museum, Open Minds project, Maitland City Council aims to identify all existing local groups currently working with historical collections and identify optimal delivery models for museum experiences in the city. In addition, Council wants to prompt community conversations about participatory ways to engage in both traditional and non-traditional museum experiences.
This exhibit will showcase items and images from 12 local historical and cultural collections across Maitland, demonstrating an example of a museum experience which is temporary, small scale and unique. Collections that have contributed to the pop up are: Grossmann House, Maitland and Beyond Family History, Maitland and District Historical Society, Maitland City Library, Maitland Gaol, Maitland Rail Museum, Maitland Regional Art Gallery, Maitland Regional Museum, Maitland Steam and antique machinery, Mindaribba Keeping Place (Henry Bolt Museum), Morpeth Museum and Museum of Clothing.
Entry to view is free and visitors are welcome to view the collection, share their stories and offer feedback on museum experiences via the available surveys or online at maitlandyoursay.com.au
Please see Riverside Plaza website for hours of opening.
