The Community Connect Gala Day will target young people aged 12-25 years in the Maitland LGA who have a disability.
The aim is to introduce these young people to a new initiative at the PCYC which will provide ongoing weekly programs.
The activities on offer will include soccer, music and a boot camp. The event will be concluded with a free BBQ lunch for participants.
The Gala Day will introduce participants to the ongoing programs at the PCYC which will encourage community inclusion, and support people with disabilities participate in mainstream clubs providing them with a sense of community belonging.
The gala day meets the objectives of Youth Week by:
– Creating a working party including young people with disabilities living in the Maitland area. The working party will assist with planning and delivery of the Gala Day.
– The gala day will promote positive images of young people with disabilities and showcase their talents in a range of activities including soccer, music and fitness.
– The young persons involved in the working party will have the opportunity to express their ideas for the gala day, and for the ongoing programs that we plan to deliver through the Maitland PCYC.
