February is the month that marks some of the greatest floods the Hunter has seen.
Each year The Maitland & District Historical Society dedicates their February talk to the floods that have shaped Maitland and the surrounding area.
February’s speaker will be Dr Wej Paradice AM, a long standing former Director of the Hunter Valley Research Foundation.
Wej will also present two environmental documentaries created by the foundation ‘Dark Rain’, focusing on the effects of droughts and floods in the Hunter and ‘The Sands of Yellow Rock’ exploring life in Wollombi in the 1950s. Both films have been converted from 16mm film to digital versions.
The talk takes place at the Maitland Historical Society building on Cathedral Street. All members of the public are welcome with just a $5 donation requested.
