Lawes Street Shred will be held on Saturday 23 March between 10.00am and 4.00pm to officially launch the newly constructed skate park at Lawes Street, East Maitland.
Lawes Street Shred will be a great opportunity to showcase the new facility which features various elements for all skill levels and disciplines, including a 1.5 metre to 2.1 metre deep hipped skate bowl with a roll in that has already been a big success with skate enthusiasts.
One of the key attractions for the event is the age division comp for skate, scooter, BMX and roller participants, which is being judged and managed by Grundy’s Skate Store, and is sanctioned by the Australian Skateboarding Federation.
Competitors and attendees can also go in the running to share $5,000 worth of prizes and giveaways on the day, which are being sponsored by the Skate Connection store, located at Greenhills.
Other entertainment and activities on the day will include demonstrations by professional riders with Grundy’s Skate Store and Skate Connection, a DJ and live music, food, a street art activity, Roller Derby League and a chill out area with lawn games. There will also be free time on the skate park between competitions for everyone to get a chance to have a roll, learn something new or show off their best tricks.
The event will provide a platform for celebrating and showcasing the talents of riders, particularly our young people, and will increase the profile of skateboarding, BMX, and roller and scooter riding in Maitland.
With skateboarding being an official Olympic sport at Tokyo 2020, we’re excited that we can provide a top quality facility in Maitland and create opportunities for skateboarders and up and coming competitors.
This is an inclusive and family friendly event for all and is drug and alcohol free. To find out more go to maitland.nsw.gov.au/events/lawes-street-shred
