Join Maitland Gaol in conjunction with Maitland Library for a night for delving into the history of Hunter Wine.
Our local community, its culture and people have largely been shaped by the Hunter wine industry. The Hunter Valley is Australia’s oldest wine region, so its history and heritage are integral to understanding not only how wine has developed but how the local region has evolved.
Join Australian leading wine historian, academic at the University of Newcastle and co-author of Hunter Wine: A History, Dr Julie McIntyre as she talks about the Hunter wine industry from 1828 through six generations uncovering the historical and technological developments that have culminated in today’s thriving local community.
After Dr McIntyre’s talk, you will go downstairs in the old administration office to join Tranquil Wines vineyard to taste a range our their wines, listen to a talk about their vineyard and wine making processes. After this you will be able to enjoy a winter inspired supper.
There is the option to book for the talk, dinner or both events.
