MAITLAND GAOL

Since its closure in 1998 as an operational correctional facility, the Gaol has made an impressive transformation into one of the Hunter region’s iconic tourist attractions and a must add to your travel bucket list.

Maitland Regional Art Gallery, or MRAG for short as locals passionately call it, is a community driven public gallery where everyone is always welcome and entry is free.

MORTELS SHEEPSKIN FACTORY

Mortels Sheepskin Factory is a multi-sward winning Australian owned family business in the Hunter Region, two hours north of Sydney, and is the oldest continuously operating ugg boot factory in the world. Visit the Museum and book a guided tour through the factory. Located out the front are the ‘big ugg boots’ which provides the perfect photo opportunity.

Morpeth Museum

The museum hosts a range of permanent exhibitions that tell the story of Morpeth including the railway, housing, working industries and families. These are supported by a suite of ever changing exhibitions that can focus on different themes of Morpeth and as new and interesting historical elements are discovered or restored.

Exhibitions range from early and family history to specific industries as well as the modern perspective.

MORPETH ANTIQUE CENTRE

Morpeth Antique Centre is located within the 185 year old renowned Campbell’s Store. Discover the wares of numerous dealers within the centre who stock a range of items to interest everyone, including tools, pottery, jewellery, garden tools, miliaria, fashion and much more. 

WALKA WATER WORKS

Set on 12 hectares of park, lake and bushland, Walka Water Works is a popular picnic and recreation area. The historic complex features an old industrial chimney and ornate brickwork dating back to the early 19th century. It hosts a large lake area, with more than 140 species of birdlife and nature-filled walking trails.

THE LEVEE

Located in Central Maitland, The Levee is a Shared Zone filled with entertainment and dining options, street art, and a blend of small businesses and national retail stores. Grab yourself a coffee and browse the precinct. 

MAITLAND PARK

Maitland Park ticks all the boxes. It is a great place to enjoy with lots of shade, green spaces ideal for kicking a ball around, accessible toilets, a shared pathway that winds around the entire park and a fully fenced all-abilities playground. Pack the kids scooters and bikes and let their imagination run free on the pretend road completed with signs, crossings, speed bumps and refuelling area.

Studio Amsterdam shows the artwork of Patricia Van Lubeck. Originally from Amsterdam, Patricia’s work has a focus on Realism, Surrealism and Magic realism.

MORPETH BREWERY & BEER

Morpeth Brewery is a small, independent, artisan brewery that has proudly been brewing handcrafted beers on the premises of the Commercial Hotel since 2012.
