Does political correctness restrain freedom of speech?
The philosopher, Immanuel Kant called free speech the most innocuous freedom, and tried to persuade enlightened despots to respect it.
Why do we claim to value freedom of speech? And how do we balance it equally with respect? Some would argue that speech must be restricted to protect others and their rights, whilst others assert that interpretation of speech is conditional on the audience.
The Hunter Valley Socratic Society will tease out these questions in a philosophical exploration of free speech in an age of political correctness.
