A Historic Country Weekend Drive

Looking at Architecture: Historic Maitland and District Country Weekend Drive

Overview

Join a special self-drive tour of charming heritage homes and beautiful private gardens throughout the Lower Hunter Maitland district, an area rich in history and awe inspiring landscapes, just waiting to be explored.

The gateway to the Lower Hunter is dominated by the city of Maitland and surrounding suburbs, surrounded by rich floodplains where lucerne and vegetable crops are produced. Originally inhabited by the Wonnarua People since the time of European settlement, the area has a history of boom and bust and at one time Maitland was the second biggest town in New South Wales.

Over two days, guests will have the opportunity to explore significant historic homes and gardens dating from the 1830s to the early 1900s, including Bolwarra House, The 1836 Barn, Shenstone, Tregothen, Bridge House and Pinehurst.

Cocktails at Grossmann House at 5pm on Friday 2 May and Paterson CWA will host a light lunch on Saturday, in the grounds of Bolwarra House, at your own expense.

Book tickets now for an adventure.
