The visitor economy plays a significant role in the continued growth of the Maitland Local Government Area. Each year, Maitland attracts 708,000 visitors, with 172,000 overnight stays and 536,000 day trippers, injecting $174 million into the local economy (Tourism Research Australia, Local Government Area Profile – Maitland, 2022).

The 2020 – 2030 Maitland Destination Management Plan provides a blueprint for developing Maitland as a destination. This document outlines the shared vision of industry, Government and the community.

Destination NSW (DNSW) is the lead government agency for tourism and major events in NSW. DNSW hosts the NSW First Program, which assists businesses to develop, promote and sell their tourism products.

The 2020-2030 Maitland Destination Management Plan (DMP) is a strategic document that presents a collaborative roadmap for building and managing Maitland’s visitor economy.

The statewide Visitor Attraction Signposting Program has been operating since 1990 and is a partnership between Destination NSW and Transport for NSW.

AGRITOURISM RESOURCES

2022 saw a number of key changes to the agritourism space in NSW with a new agritourism policy released by the NSW Government, and the launch of  an agritourism strategy by Australian Regional Tourism.
