Maitland City Council invites you to join us as we mark 70 years since the historic 1955 Hunter Valley Flood. This special event will honour the resilience of our community and those who played a role in recovery and rebuilding
Event highlights:
- Official remembrance ceremony and commemorative plaque unveiling – starting at 10am
- Grand opening of Flood Level 1955 – A Historical Exhibition. Explore equipment used during flood responses from the SES, a refurbished flood boat and a range of fashion, historical images, video footage, and displays dedicated to flood education.
- Vintage and modern-day emergency rescue vehicles and watercraft display
- Launch of Beyond the Flood Levels – An innovative self-guided walking tour that explores Maitland’s flood history through immersive, interactive experiences using augmented reality and digital storytelling.
- Free community BBQ and more
