If you’re excited about making art, this is the perfect club for you!

So many interesting animals are hiding in the Library. From cats and dogs to elephants and sea monsters, animals appear in every corner of the collection.

Livestreaming from the NSW State Library, art educator Rachel teaches the use colour, shape and texture to creature amazing animal art!

Session 1: Shape

This week we look at the element of shape and how simple shapes can be used to make complex drawings. Using animal illustrations from the Library’s collection as inspiration, we will learn the fundamentals of drawing animals.

Session 2: Colour

We will explore the power of colour in this week’s Art Club. Colour is everywhere in the Library’s collection, and we will learn how to be inspired by colour palettes from artworks, objects and photographs for use in our own artworks.

Session 3: Texture

Our final Art Club of the term will be all about texture. We will zoom into the Library’s collection to see how simple lines and marks can be used to create furry, feathered or scaley animal textures. We will add the final layer to our animal mixed media artwork using coloured pencil.
