Overview

Treat yourself to a wonderfully entertaining evening with exciting new Australian author Olivia De Zilza as she chats about her wildly original debut novel, Plastic Budgie, and offers a sneak peek at her forthcoming poetry collection, Sick Note.

Plastic Budgie is a sharp, brutally funny blend of memoir and fiction that explores family, identity and growing up Asian Australian through a series of vivid snapshots. Think Y2K nostalgia, curses, and unexpected birds, it’s the kind of book that will have you laughing one moment and quietly reflecting the next.

Published by exciting new publisher Pink Shorts Press, and boasting one of the stand-out covers of 2025, Plastic Budgie is contemporary fiction at its best and boldest.

Olivia will be in conversation with Georgia Pederson, Maitland libraries’ very own bookseller librarian. Prepare for an evening of brilliant conversation and a fresh literary voice that’s impossible to ignore.

Light refreshments provided.

Books will be available for purchase and signing.
