Organ Recital Series 2026

Organ Recital Series 2026

Overview

The organ at St Peter’s was designed and built by the renowned British organ builder “Father” Henry Willis, whose company remains in operation today after four generations of family involvement. There are thirteen pipe organs within the Maitland LGA, five of which were built by Henry Willis between 1867 and 1881.

The Father Willis organ at St Peter’s arrived in Australia in 1876 and was the second instrument imported from this builder. It is the oldest Father Willis organ in Australia still in use and remains largely unaltered. As such, it holds significant heritage value not only for the Maitland, but also at a state and national level.

The Recital Series at St Peter’s Anglican Church, East Maitland, is proud to mark the 150th Anniversary of this historic instrument. To commemorate this milestone, St. Peter’s will be hosting a series of ten organ recitals throughout the year, featuring an exceptional line-up of guest organists from across New South Wales. Several performers will be making their debut appearances at St Peter’s.

Come celebrate the 150 year milestone of this cultural and heritage instrument, that brings community together, for a joyful musical experience.
