The Art of Smocking or Gauging

Overview

Used for over 300 years, smocking is the pleating or gathering of material used to shape simply cut garments and control the fullness of the fabric.

Sharon will start you on a journey of discovery and teach you how to complete a basic panel of smocking. She will then explain how that can be applied to dresses, blouses, home furnishings and more. If you have a garment that you think can be smocked, bring it with you and ask Sharon.

One day workshop with Sharon O’Rourke. $60 tuition, materials supplied ($20 materials fee payable to the artist on the day).
