Curating Maitland’s 19th Century Past

Overview

Maitland Libraries are launching a new exhibition: Curating Maitland’s 19th Century Past, to celebrate History Week 2022 and the theme of Hands on History.

It presents seven compelling collection items, from the etching of lost wetlands to an indenture contract that bound an eight year old orphan to servitude. This exhibition shows how the practice of curating and sharing collections, and getting hands on with history, shapes the way we understand and commemorate Maitland’s history.

This free exhibition opens on Monday 5 September, at Maitland City Library (9:00am–5:00pm)
Related public talk: Tuesday 6 September (10:30–11:00 am), Maitland Libraries

480 High Street Maitland
Community Heritage Curator, Warwick Heywood, will give a free 30min talk on the exhibition, at Maitland City Library
