Grossmann & Brough Houses – a National Trust Treasure in Maitland
Overview
Maitland’s own National Trust Property, Grossmann & Brough Houses, is open to visitors Sunday 9 November 2025.
Situated at 71-73 Church Street, just a 5-minute walk from Maitland Railway Station, the Victorian merchant’s residence, Grossmann House, is open for one hour guided tours from 10:30am to 3pm. This furnished house-museum is a gem with each room holding fascinating stories of the past including the ‘school room’, celebrating this site which was Maitland Girls’ High School from 1894 to 1963. Tour prices range from $10 concession to $34 for families, National Trust & children under 5 free. Booking on Eventbrite for tours is recommended but walk-ins are also welcome.
In the adjacent ’mirror-image’ Brough House, see weaving looms operating along with new displays in the Maitland Regional Museum and the Australian Museum of History & Textiles.
Enjoy home-made delicacies, tea, coffee and cold drinks at very reasonable prices in our lovely gardens – a sea of lilac with the Jacarandas and agapanthus in bloom. There is also the opportunity to purchase our ‘Mrs Beckett’s’ home-made jams and savoury preserves – unique Christmas gifts.
All funds raised are used to conserve these wonderful buildings and grounds, right in the heart of Maitland. https://nationaltrust.org.au/places/grossmann-brough-house
