Speedway Celebrations

Maitland Speedway Centennial Celebrations

Overview

Did you know Speedway started at Maitland Showground 100 years ago? Preparations are well underway for the celebration of the Centenary of Speedway. Two days of events will commemorate the centenary of motorcycle speedway competition which began in Maitland, in the Hunter Valley.

A full day of activities will be held at the Maitland Showground on Friday. Gates will open to the general public with several stalls, static displays of speedway vehicles, historical memorabilia displays, food stalls, entertainment, and on track demonstrations by speedway motorcycle riders.

On Friday evening, a formal dinner will be held in the pavilion of the Maitland Showgrounds with a sit down buffet dinner. The dinner is open to the public with video displays, guest speakers, an auction, and time to make memories.

From 6.30pm on Saturday, an open speedway solo race meeting will be held at Kurri Kurri Speedway for the Johnnie Hoskins Trophy, in honour of the man who introduced speedway motorcycling to the world.
