Margaret and the Grey Mare

Winter Solstice Celebration with Margaret and the Grey Mare

Overview

As the winter solstice casts its longest shadow, it fittingly marks the final weekend of the evocative exhibition Margaret and the Grey Mare, and in celebration of this celestial alignment, the city of Maitland is preparing to host a luminous and unforgettable evening of art, fire, and festivity.

Visitors are invited to begin their journey at The Levee, where dazzling lighting installations and mesmerizing fiery displays will transform the night into a spectacle of light and wonder, before making their way to the Maitland Regional Art Gallery, where the café will be offering a specially curated menu to warm and delight.

The gallery’s lawn will come alive with the vibrant energy of local performers, whose music and movement will animate the space with a sense of community and celebration, while guests sip on mulled wine and prepare to ascend to the upper gallery for a truly singular artistic experience.

As the evening crescendos, all eyes will turn skyward at 8 PM for a breathtaking fireworks display, a fitting finale to a night steeped in myth, magic, and meaning.

The exhibition experience begins on the hour, every hour, offering multiple opportunities for guests to step into this otherworldly realm.
