A Long Street the Hotels of Hunter Street, Newcastle – Talk

Overview

Imagine a pub crawl down Hunter Street in 1900 when it hosted 29 hotels.

Author, Ed Tonk, has released his new book, “A Long Street : the hotels, of Hunter Street, Newcastle, New South Wales,” which traces the rise and fall of Hunter Street hotels, once a key element in a dynamic central business district. The book details 36 locations once operating and to a limited extent, still associated with hotels.

Local historian, Ed Tonks will discuss the hotels’ and details provided, and if known include name of the hotel, when the licence was granted, architect, licensees, changes of name, closure and removal of licence.

Anyone interested in local history and characters from the past, will find this talk fascinating. This limited edition book will be available for purchase at the event.
