Maitland Gaol is a former maximum security prison that housed some of Australia’s most notorious criminals. Visitors have the chance to explore the heritage listed site and discover the extensive 150 year history and stories of incarceration at your own pace with a Self Guided Audio Tour or book a Guided Day Tour on the weekend. The Gaol is a living museum and as you walk around you won’t be disappointed as the history consumes you. Inside cell blocks the atmosphere of heavy door, after heavy door, cell after cell and each scrawl of graffiti has its own story to tell.

Make your way to Morpeth and explore the historic town.
