Maitland Railway Station was transformed for a unique After Dark experience on Saturday 7 May with a free pop up roller rink, Neon Garden lighting installation, roving performers, food trucks, DJ’s and more.  

What a night it was at Maitland Station for our After Dark event. This initiative was delivered by Maitland City Council with thanks to Transport for NSW.

Thank you as well to all of our stakeholders, including the staff at Maitland Station, The Bikesmith Espresso + Bar, Maitland City Rollers, Carla Obrien, the DJs, food trucks and of course our wonderful volunteers.

What’s happening at the event?

There will be a free roller skating rink, roving performers, free bike check ups, food trucks, music and a neon lighting installation.

Is the event ticketed?

Roller skating is free. Book your sessions time and roller skates here.

Do I have to book roller skating sessions online?

Yes. We encourage you to book your roller skating session and roller skates ahead of time to avoid disappointment at the door. 

How long are the roller skating sessions?

Sessions are every half an hour for 20 minutes with a ten minute change over.  

Do I need to bring my own socks?

Yes, please bring your own socks if you are borrowing roller skates on site. 

Can I use my own roller skates or roller blades?

Yes, you are welcome to bring and use your own roller skates or roller blades. But remember to book in your roller skating session to avoid disappointment at the door. 

Is there any age limit for the roller skating rink?

The age range of skaters is determined by smallest skate size, so about 4 years and above. 

Skate sizes available for hire range from child size 12 to adult size 13.

If my Roller Rink session is postponed/delayed due to temporary bad weather, what happens to my session?

You will have an option to attend another session later in the evening, subject to availability.

What happens if it rains?

Public safety is our number one of our priority. The roller rink is exposed to the weather and may not be able to continue to operate under certain weather conditions. Together with rink operators a decision will be made if sessions/ events need to be adjusted/postponed/cancelled as required. 

How should I travel to the event?

If possible get active and leaving the car at home. Come to the event by foot, bike or public transport. 

Is there public transport?

Bus and trains are the recommended public transport option. The Maitland Railway Station exits into the event site and the Maitland Station Railway Street bus stop is directly next to the event.

Where can I park?

Parking is limited at the station.  

Street parking is available is the surrounding streets or public car parks are located within short walk distance of the event. 

Public car parking can be found in the Elgin Street Car Park and Maitland Riverside Car Park. 

Is there food on site?

Yes, there will a great selection of food offerings on site during the event. Please see the website for further information on what’s on offer close to the event date.

Is there a bar on site or can I bring alcohol (BYO)?

No. Alcohol is prohibited. 

Are there ATM’s available?

There will be no ATM’s on site. The closest ATM will be in Pender Place, Church Street. Most of our food truck to accept EFTPOS. 

Is the event site accessible?

The majority of site is accessible however some lighting installations will be positioned on grassed areas which may inhibit mobility. 

Are there accessible toilets onsite?

Yes, an accessible toilet will be located on site.

Do I have to wear a mask?

Current health advice recommends to wear a face mask when you can’t physically distance from others. For current COVID-19 advise please check the NSW Government website.

What do I do if I have lost my child?

Please speak with event staff or security, within the event site or at the First Aid marquee.

Do you have wristbands/ID for children?

In case of lost children, child wristbands are available at the event information marquee, for parents and guardians to write their mobile number. This assists event staff and security in reuniting lost children with their parent or guardian. 

Can I bring my dog?

Dogs are welcome however they must always remain on a leash, be well behaved and socialised. Owners must clean up after them.
