‘Paperhangings of the Past: A history of wallpapers in Australia’ Lecture

Overview

You are invited to the 2026 Grossmann Lecture, presented by Michael Lech, curator at the Museums of History NSW.

Neutrals may dominate today’s interiors, but in the 19th and 20th centuries, wallpaper was the primary way to bring colour and character into the home.

Presented by Michael Lech, curator at the Museums of History NSW, this engaging presentation explores the remarkable diversity of wallpaper over more than 200 years, offering a fascinating glimpse into the domestic lives of Australians.

Through a richly illustrated talk, attendees will discover how colour and design have shaped Australian interiors across time.

The 30 to 40 minute presentation will conclude with an opportunity for questions and discussion with the presenter.

Includes drinks and canapes.
